The transfer deadline in English soccer has come and gone with plenty of drama, a little fanfare and the spending equivalent of a small country’s GNP.
Ans guess what? There was a record amount spent in the English Premier League this summer. Or at least a record amount until next summer.
But these clubs can obviously afford it.
The EPL continues to build on its worldwide fanbase, a fanbase no other league in the world can claim, and the money involved has lifted the economics of the sport to a level most of can hardly believe.
And now it’s back to more fundamental matters. Now we can turn attention back to the games.
